This blog is a examination of the the X-Games and to a lesser extent extreme sports in general. Through our research we have attempted to answer questions about how the X-Games relate to pop culture in general. Some of these questions include:
Where did the X-Games come from? How did they evolve from underground sports to a major television event? Who is watching the games? How has the demographics changed over time?
What is the role of women in the sports? How has this role changed?
What role does advertising play in the events, both in terms of selling products as well as selling the event itself and the athletes?
Also, as a general theme we saw interesting ideas in the nature of the X-Games as both a counter culture movement as well as an event with mainstream appeal. We examine the dual nature of the X-Games in this regard and the affect it has on the event and the sports themselves.
